He was born in Mammola, Reggio Calabria, Italy on May 20, 1929. His parents were Maria Rosa Napoli and Domenico Antonio Mazzone.

He is survived by his spouse, Assunta Giarrusso, daughter Rosemary (Enzo), sons Domenico and Dino (Rina), grandchildren Jordan, Tatyana and Luca. Sisters Caterina (Vincenzo), Carmelina (Vincenzo) and brother Cosimo (Francesca) as well as many brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews, many relatives and numerous friends.

Preceded by sisters Annunziata and Angela, brothers Giuseppe, Nicodemo and Pasquale.

Fortunato had a profound impact on his friends and family through his unparalleled kindness and wise words. His love for his family and of life went beyond measure. Fortunato was recognized by all as a person with exceptional integrity and respect for others. He will be greatly missed.

Due to current circumstances, a private service will be held in his honour. 

Visitation on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, by invitation only, at Loreto Funeral Home situated at 4975 Blvd. Des Grandes Prairies, St. Leonard. Funeral Services, by invitation only, Mont Carmel Church, 7645 Dumans, St. Leonard. Interment will follow at St. Francois D’Assise, 6893 Sherbrooke St. East, Montreal.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Santa Cabrini Foundation.

We will forever remember Zio Fortunato for his kind and generous spirit. He always greeted us with his warm and welcoming smile. We hold dear the many times we were together at family occasions and visits to his home where he and Zia Assuntina were most welcoming and happy to see us. Zio Fortunato was a blessing in all our lives. He will be greatly missed, but affectionately remembered in our hearts forever.
