Maria Chiovitti Scioli

Maria Chiovitti Scioli

4 août 1927 - 7 avril 2020

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Chiovitti Scioli on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. After a four year battle with kidney disease, our beloved Maria passed away peacefully, at the age of 92. Born in Boiano, Italy, to Berenice and Archangelo Chiovitti, she immigrated to Montreal in 1954.

She was the cherished wife of the late Giovanni Scioli; beloved mother of Gina (Lucio), and Nicolina (Mike); devoted grandmother of Nadia (Pat), Paolo (Sonia), and Alex (Amanda); adoring great-grandmother of Julia, Lisa, Sofia and Lucas. She will be sadly missed by her brother, Luigi, brother-in-law Mario, and by her sisters-in-law, Giovanna, and Maria. She will also be missed by her caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Maria was a caring and loving person to all that knew her. She enjoyed taking care of her garden and was generous in sharing the bounty of her efforts with her family and friends. She always demonstrated great strength, both physical and emotional. Neighbors seeing her chopping her firewood in preparation for winter would refer to her as a “Powerhouse”. She demonstrated emotional strength by losing her husband at such a young age and continued to be an anchor uniting the family together.

Maria’s greatest joys were her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether it was accompanying them to a doctor’s appointment (which always included a treat at Pik Nik Hot Dogs), making them homemade pasta, knitting them a scarf, baking them a birthday cake, or making sure fresh waffles were ready when they visited, she was always there for them.

The family will have a private funeral at Complexe Funéraire Loreto II. A celebration of Maria’s life and Memorial Mass will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to www.complexeloreto.com
