Antonietta Coronati Santangelo

Antonietta Coronati Santangelo

May 22, 1929 - December 15, 2023

On December 15, sitting in her favourite Lazy Boy, Ninetta peacefully passed away. In the afterlife, she joins her late husband Giuseppe (1999) and son Pasquale (2015).

Her journey started in Casacalenda, Campobasso in 1929, a picturesque town in the Molise region of Italy. Of modest means, her parents (Francesco Coronati and Carmela Bracco) had 8 children (Giuseppina, Arturo, Giselda, Antonietta, Vincenzo, Lucia, Maria, Alfredo) and made the most in an era of economic hardship.

In April 1951, she married Giuseppe Santangelo and started her own family. Like many of her generation, they worked hard to make a better life for their children. In 1960, the Santangelo family (with 2 young boys Pasquale and Franco) moved to Montréal and joined family members and an established support network.

Despite physical complications from a previous operation, in 1961, she had another son (Mario). This was a joyous time, and the young family was supported by several family members particularly her brothers Vincenzo, Alfredo, and her sisters Giselda, Lucia, and Maria. (In-laws Vitulano and Ramondo families)

An important part of this wonderful group were the Marzitelli, Del Torto, Bavota and Carmosino families. The social, emotional, and financial support they gave each other resulted in a shared success. This generation really looked after each other.

In 1967 Ninetta and Giuseppe purchased their first and only home where they successfully raised 3 boys.

Ninetta was an active member of the family tribe. Whenever someone needed help, she would rally the troops. On special holidays, along with her sisters and adopted friends, they would show their cooking skills, and keep old traditions alive.

Her faith was deep, and she travelled on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem (Via Dolorosa) and to Portugal (Fatima).

Ninetta had a reputation for being generous, sociable, noisy, strong-willed, and true to her beliefs. She lived a full life, and we’re grateful for the values she gave us.

She is survived by 2 sons Franco (Christine), Mario (Ani), 4 grandchildren (J.P. (Diana) Jon Carlo (Maria), Andrew (Melissa), Mathew (Cristina) and 6 great grandchildren (Sara-Nicole, Carissa, Matteo, Gianni, Audriana, and Alessandra).

 Her guiding values were:

FAMIGLIA, AMORE, SACRIFICIO, PROGRESSO, COMUNITÀ.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to L’Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal would be appreciated.
