Pietro “Pierino” Panetta was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather during his wonderful 88 years of life. He passed away peacefully surrounded with love in the early evening of August 15th, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Born on December 1st, 1936 to Salvatore Panetta and Rosalia Fazzoralli in Reggio Calabria Italy, Pietro was the youngest of 6 children.
As a young man in Italy, he met the love of his life. When she immigrated to Canada in 1960, he soon followed, and in 1964 they were married. Together they built a life in Montreal. They raised two devoted daughters, instilling in them strength, resilience, and a love of family.
Pietro shared a lively and loving relationship with his daughters. They created cherished memories through music, spirited card games, and even watching cartoons side by side. He valued musical education deeply and encouraged his daughters to learn and appreciate the joy of playing an instrument.
His grandson was the joy of his life and his “little prince.” He rarely missed one of his cello recitals or baseball games. He treasured the times they spent playing soccer and the piano, as well as watching classic cartoon shows.
He will be remembered by his family and friends for his meticulous craftsmanship in tilework, his beautiful calligraphy, and lifelong love of music. A self-taught musician he played the accordion, organ, and piano.
Pietro is survived by wife of 61 years, Celestina, as well as his children Rosemarie (Michael), Sandra (Atanu), and his grandson, Xavier.
Please join us in celebrating his life Monday, August 18th between 3pm-8pm at Complexe Funeraire Loreto, 4975 Boul des Grandes-Prairies, Saint-Léonard, QC H1R 3B5. The funeral will be a private occasion. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either https://mscanada.ca/ or to https://cancer.ca/en
