Honoring the Life of Carmela Lucia Catania
(July 6, 1928 – August 20, 2025)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Carmela Lucia Catania on August 20, 2025, at the age of 97. She was the heart of our family, who gave so much of herself without ever expecting anything in return.
Carmela was born in Cattolica Eraclea, Sicily, to Calogero Lucia and Giuseppa Scalia. In 1965, she bravely immigrated to Canada with her beloved husband, Domenico Catania. Together, they built a life full of love, hard work and dedication. She will be remembered for her kindness, courage, strength, faith and her deep love & devotion for her family. Her legacy will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Domenico, her cherished son Antonino and her precious granddaughter Jackie. She leaves to mourn her children Maddalena (the late Santo Rosario Spagnolo), Franca (Giuseppe Caltagirone) & Pina (Emanuele Spagnolo). She will be dearly missed by her precious grandchildren, Domenic, Carmie, Nick, Domenico, Vito, Tony, Carmela, Silvana, Elena, Jennifer, Joseph, Vanessa, and their spouses, along with her 24 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
She was a loving sister to Angela, Anna, Francesca, Giuseppa, Emanuele and Maria, who are all deceased, and a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
