  1. Umar and Haidie Umanguay says:

We are heartbroken to hear the news.

When we moved to town, Jeffrey was the first to welcome us. He didn’t just say hello—he made us feel like we belonged. He showed up with kindness, with stories, with that gentle humour that always seemed to lift the weight of the day.

Jeffrey had a quiet way of taking care of people. He shared bread and produce from his Church like it was the most natural thing in the world. He never asked for anything in return. He gave with his whole heart, and he did it with joy.

He lived his faith without needing to talk about it. You could feel it in how he treated people with patience, warmth, and deep respect. In a world that often rushes past others, Jeffrey took the time to notice. He listened. He cared.

We will miss his check-in emails, the way he remembered small things, the way he made us laugh when we didn’t even know we needed it.

To Louisa and the family, our prayers are with you. We grieve with you. May you be surrounded by the same love and grace that Jeffrey gave so freely in his life.

And may his memory stay with us, as a quiet light, reminding us to be better, to be gentler, and to keep sharing, just like he did.

  2. Dean McKay says:

The loss of an old friend. Our shared experience growing up in Montreal North. The working class culture, the play, everyday battles, laughs, local bars, after hour restaurants, trips.
Every one who knew Jeff, if they could keep up, enjoyed his humour. Solid, time enduring classic jokes.
No one was spared being the target in service of a good joke. Never let a good joke go to waste. Jeff and our group enjoyed spinning jokes or commentary with speed and the required intelligence to jump in, just about every night. A great gift we gave each other. I’m pleased that we were able to get together a couple of weeks ago for one last kick of the can.
I mourn the loss of an old friend.

  3. Roger Silva says:

My sincere condolences to Luisa and all the family for the your loss.
I didn’t know Jeff for a long time, but the little time we shared was always filled with laughter and interesting stories. It is really sad to see you go so soon, but on the other hand, you will be in heaven where all suffering is gone and only joys forevermore are present.
I really enjoyed getting to know you and I hope in God we will see each other again in eternity.
    You will be missed.

It was very sad news to hear about the passing of Jeff, and I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to Luisa and their families.

I met Jeff in 1981, we were 2 young men from Montreal joining the military together. We survived basic training and we got both posted to Halifax. Even though we were on different ships, we spent pretty much the next 3 years together. What a great friend he was, full of life, and who didn’t love that laugh! So sorry he is gone, he will never be forgotten and always in my thoughts. Take care Jeff and I’ll see you on the other side.

  9. Vic Mackevicius says:

My sincerest condolences Luisa, family and friends. I spoke with Jeffrey quite a bit by email. Our conversations covered many topics, but were always peppered with references to God and Jesus. When Jeffrey informed me of his illness and the little time he had, he said that he wasn’t afraid. He was looking forward to it, knowing that he would be received by God.
May all the fantastic memories bring you comfort.
May God bless his soul, and may God bless all who called Jeffrey a friend.

Lyn and I spent three wonderful vacations with Jeff and Luisa. Jeff had a habit of getting me to engage in some almost extreme events while away, getting tossed from a tubing ride and flipping a sunfish sailboat among them. His smile and laugh were infectious and will be missed.
Our sincere condolences go out to Luisa and family.
