Saverio Bretti

Saverio Bretti

May 14, 1932 - May 8, 2022

Saverio Bretti departed this earth on May 8 to join his beloved wife of 58 years, Giovanna Rosa.

He was a loving father to Maria Teresa (Giuseppe Cutrone) and Franca. Doting grandfather to Valerie and Michael Cutrone. Devoted brother to Veronica Monterosso (Giacomo). Brother-in-law to Salvatore and Egidia Galloro, Antonio and Giuseppina Galloro, Angela and Nicola Cina, Concetta Mazzotta and Agostina Gugliotta. He was an unforgettable uncle to his many nieces and nephews spread throughout the world.

Saverio was born in Filadelfia, Italy. He was the 11th child in a large and boisterous family of 13. He was a precocious young man who was known for his jokes and the tricks he subjected his friends and families to. He was a great storyteller willing to recount many memorable family stories and could come up with countless brindisi for any occasion.

Saverio came to Canada in 1962 to marry his beloved.  Together they built a home and raised their family in the traditions of Italy.  Saverio was an avid gardener and wine maker.  He always planted more than he needed in order to give away the fruits of his labour.  He was renowned for his strength and hard work and he was always ready and willing to help others in their time of need.

Family and friends always came first, followed closely by his dedication to God and church.

He was blessing to everyone who knew him and he will be deeply missed by family, friends and his community.

  8. My deepest condolences to you Mary and all your family. You’re father went and join your mother. May God bless them both.

  10. On behalf of my family, I’d like to extend our deepest condolences to the extended Bretti family. Mr. Bretti charmed me from day one with his humour, warmth and exhortations to try a glass of wine or eat more salume. I was one of the lucky recipients of his massive gardening talents. It was easy to see how much he adored his family. May his memory be a blessing.

  11. Signor Saverio was a caring, hilariously funny man. He welcomed us as not only his daughters’ dear friends, but as his also. Going to Franca and Mary’s house was a joy. We felt at home and both Mr. and Mrs. Bretti made sure we were….home. He will be sorely missed, but how lucky were we to have known him. Arrivederci, Signor Bretti.
