Maria Pace Di Dio

Maria Pace Di Dio

September 12, 1931 - October 13, 2022

On the night of October 13, our beloved mother, Maria Pace, died peacefully in her sleep while in hospital in Montreal. She was born on September 12, 1931 in a small town (San Pietro Infine),  in Italy, and moved to Montreal with her husband and young children where they settled. She was married for 59 years to Vitale Di Dio before she became widowed in 2011. She devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren, and was present for all their milestones until her last days. She enjoyed cooking, especially making her own pasta, tending to her vegetable garden,  her faith, watching the Italian news, and especially being surrounded by her grandchildren.

She leaves her 6 children to mourn: Immacolata (late Carmine), Pina (Joe), Carmela (Emile), Renato (Kathy), Luisa (Rick) and Pasqualina. She will be missed by her 13 adoring grandchildren Ernesto, Anna Maria, Tania, Melissa, Sabrina, Vincent, Marilyn, Matthew, John, Alex, Anthony, Amanda, and Massimo; as well as her 8 great grandchildren, Arthur, Angus, Poppy, Emilia, Cristina, Arielle, Liam and Adriano. She is also survived by her younger brother, Vittorio (Restituta), in-laws, and many nephews and nieces. Special thanks go to her daughter Carmela, who provided a comfortable home for her over the last 6  years, and diligently cared for all of her needs. Our mother was very appreciative of Carmela’s efforts to keep her healthy and happy.

The family will receive condolences at Complex Funeraire Loreto, 4975 boulevard des Grandes Prairies, St-Leonard, QC on Sunday, October 23rd at 2-5 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 24th, at 11:00 am at Missione Maria Ausiliatrice located at 8550 Ave Joliot Curie, followed by a burial at Cote-des-Neiges Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Fondation de L’Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal Open Hearts Welcome | MHI Foundation (fondationicm.org) or to the Fondation de Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont – Fondation de l’Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (fondationhmr.ca)) where she was well cared for over the years, or to a Catholic church of your choosing for prayers or masses in her name.
